Known as the "Cradle of Civilization," this region was home to several early river valley societies. Located between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, the region is known for its rich alluvial soil, which has earned it the nickname the "Fertile Crescent.".

Age and Petrology of the Tertiary As Sarat Volcanic Field, Southwestern Saudi Arabia By Edward A. duBray1, Douglas B. Stoeser1, and Edwin H. McKee1 Open-File Report Report prepared by the U.S.
Geological Survey in cooperation with the Deputy Ministry for Mineral Resources, Saudi Arabia This report is preliminary and has not been reviewed forAuthor: E.A. Du Bray, D.B. Stoeser, E.H. McKee. Harrat As Sarat forms the second smallest and southernmost of the basalt fields of western Saudi Arabia and is part of a voluminous Red Sea rift-related continental alkali basalt province.
The rocks of the As Sarat were emplaced during the first stage of Red Sea rifting and represent the northernmost extension of the Tertiary Trap Series volcanics that occur mainly in the Yemen Arab Republic. Year Published: Phosphorus speciation and solubility in aeolian dust deposited in the interior American West.
Aeolian dust is a significant source of phosphorus (P) to alpine oligotrophic lakes, but P speciation in dust and source sediments and its release kinetics to lake water remain unknown.
Abstract. To better constrain the tectonic history of the Arabian craton in the Tertiary, we carried out a combined paleomagnetic and 40 Ar/ 39 Ar geochronological study on volcanic rocks from the Khaybar and Lunayyir Harrats plus a site of sediments deposited below the Miocene rocks in the former area.
